ABOUT US
Springwood and Districts Basketball Association (S&DBA) is based out of Blaxland High School Sports Centre. We are a member of Basketball New South Wales, as well as being active members of our Blue Mountains and Penrith community.
S&DBA is a non-profit organisation, providing a fun environment for people of all ages to play basketball. We have a large range of development sessions for all ages, abilities, and experience levels, as well as domestic and representative competitions for both girls and boys of all ages and abilities. We currently run basketball activities on all days of the week, with an emphasis on creating more opportunities for young players, and in particular pushing for more female participation.
The Blue Mountains region is a tight-knit community, with around 80,000 members, which is embedded in the community values we create within both our domestic and representative programs. We are currently experiencing dramatic growth in our numbers, and are excited to expand basketball opportunities within our local communities.
THE SCORCHERS TEAMS
Heading into the 2024 representative season, we have entered 9 teams this year – 3 senior teams (Youth League Men and Women, Waratah Men) and 6 Junior teams (U14B, U16B, U16G, U18G and 2 U18B teams). We have added an additional 3 teams from 2023, including another female representative team!
Our Senior teams will be participating in the Senior Waratah League Competition, which requires extensive travel outside of the Sydney Metropolitan area across the course of an 22 week season. Each team will have 1 (potentially 2) games per weekend, half of which are played at our home stadium. Our Junior teams have a slightly shorter season, and stay within the Sydney Metro area. Representative games are played on Saturdays for seniors (and some Sundays if back-to-back games are required) and Sundays for Juniors from March through to August. We have approximately 70 games to be played at home in 2024, and are also hosting BNSW pre-season week 3 games, and hope to host Junior Rep Finals again!
Our teams consist of hard-working players, all of which are dedicated to leading by example at our Association. Our Senior League players, in particular, are heavily involved in the coaching, training and reffing of our domestic and representative teams. We have created a culture where every player works not for themselves, but for each other, and are centred around giving back to the community in whatever way possible.
WHY SPONSOR US?
Whilst we have grown so much as an Association, we are still looking to improve in the following areas;
- Bringing in, retaining, growing and developing further our girls program, continuing on from the large steps we have already taken
- Development of junior referees and coaches
- Progressing our higher-level players, officials, and coaches into high-performance opportunities
- Developing our own High Performance Program
- Continued association success and growth in representative competitions
- Growing towards expansion
Your sponsorship will be crucial in helping us reach these goals in the near future, and building a better, stronger basketball community in the Blue Mountains.
ASSOCIATION GROWTH
Our growth this past year has continued on from 2022 and blossomed in 2023 – and we project for this to continue in 2024!
In our 2021/22 season, we had 421 members across all our competitions. In 2022/23, we increased membership by 44% to 607 members. Now, in 2023/24 we have 707. Furthermore, in 2021 our development programs had 251 participants. In 2022 this increased by 162% to 659 kids as of December 2022. Now, in November 2023 we have 1230!
We also have seen great success with our school holiday clinics, averaging 71 kids per day, and have built working partnerships with local primary schools, basketball NSW, and Down Syndrome NSW. These increases are indicative of the strength of our grass roots, and the success of the investment in our coaching and playing development thus far.
